Betsy Bisson is a Maine native. Having lived here all her life, she feels her roots and strong ties to Maine’s four seasons contribute as much to her success as an artist as all her many courses, workshops, and years of experience. She paints in all mediums but is quick to say she is most comfortable with the crisp, quick, clean medium of watercolor.
When the last of her five children married she began formal art training at the University of Maine in Augusta and the Maine College of Art in Portland where she has completed courses in Drawing, Design, Painting and Printmaking. For the past 7 years she has enjoyed the winter months in the tropical setting of Sarasota Florida where she has taken courses at the Ringling School of Art and the Art Center of Sarasota. She is now blending the best of both worlds into the new adventure of Plein Air painting with great enthusiasm

For several years she was privileged to be the Artist in Residence on Gilbert Head, an island at the mouth of the Kennebec River and former home of Stephen Etnier, one of Maine’s well known artists. One of the painting done there was published in Down East Magazine as a full page lead to a story by John Cole about the island.
